Small Business Joint Initiative

“Together, We Make a Difference”

A Small Business Joint Initiative has recently been launched in Eastern Ontario with partnerships between the Ministry of Labour, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, Ontario Service Safety Alliance, Industrial Accident Prevention Association, Transportation Health and Safety Association of Ontario, and Health Care Health and Safety Association.

A group of small businesses has been selected for joint visits by the MOL and the WSIB in an effort to identify health and safety hazards, enforce corrective action and encourage self-reliance through education and Health and Safety Association assistance.

Members of these organizations met on June 17th in Gananoque, at the Eastern Ontario Ministry of Labour Conference, to support this initiative and to discuss roles and contributions in this effort. The conference was also attended and supported by Helle Tosine, ADM of the Ministry of Labour.

This joint initiative will foster mutual learning, experience and co-operation among front-line staff for each of the partners involved. Most importantly, it will assist these high-risk employers in reducing the rate of lost-time injuries in their workplaces.

If OSSA clients require assistance as a result of the WSIB & MOL visits, they can access their local consultant, OSSA’s Web site, or Client Service Line at 1-888-478-6772 for more information on products and resources.

For those clients interested in integrating health and safety, our consultants will work with you to understand your business and needs so that health and safety can be built into your business operations in a meaningful and sustainable way.

The OSSA & WSIB Partnership: Working Together for You

We understand the Ontario health and safety prevention and insurance system can be confusing. That’s why we’ve been working in close partnership with the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board (WSIB) Services Sector over the past six months to share information about our respective roles and responsibilities when we work with you, the client.

Working Together to Serve Ontario’s Service Sector Employers

Now both OSSA and WSIB employees have a better understanding of each others’ roles, processes and new products and how they can best serve you. If you have questions about the WSIB, we’ll be able to explain what you can expect from them and we’ll give you the name of a WSIB contact for further information. In return, WSIB account managers can discuss how an OSSA consultant will work with you to help you integrate health and safety into your business practices.

Respecting Client Confidentiality

OSSA does not share client information with other organizations, however if you were referred to OSSA by the WSIB, your OSSA consultant will ask your permission to let the WSIB know you called us. If you agree, this would be e-mailed to the WSIB account manager thanking them for the referral. This simple step keeps the lines of communication open and lets the WSIB know that you have contacted OSSA and are taking the first steps toward creating an injury-free workplace.
