Ministry of Labour repeats its Falls Blitz in

May 2010

Focuses on falls from heights for the second time this year

The Ministry of Labour focused its efforts in November, 2009 on a scheduled inspection blitz on slips, trips and falls in the workplace, one of the leading causes of workplace injury.

In January, 2010, as part of its ongoing Safe at Work campagin, the Ministry targeted falls from heights, specifically at construction sites, in response to the December 24th, 2009 tragedy that took the lives of four Ontario workers. More information on this blitz can be found at the Ministry's site

A second blitz on Falls and Fall-related hazards has been scheduled for May, 2010. Inspectors will be looking for hazards involving platforms, raised floors, mezzanines and ladders during this blitz. They will also be checking fall-arrest equipment and guardrails, and watching for dangerous practices, such as working on storage racks and using ladders. Particular emphasis is being placed on safe use of suspended work platforms.
