OSSA is the first Health & Safety association designed to meet the unique needs of Ontario's dynamic service sector. The service sector accounts for 70% of employment within Ontario. It also includes a large proportion of small business owners. OSSA represents five sub-sectors:
Despite their obvious differences, all of these industries share some important similarities when it comes to workplace safety. For example, each sub-sector tends to hire numerous part-time and seasonal employees. (In Ontario, over 70% of teenagers work their first job in a restaurant, office, retail store or some other service business.)
OSSA understands the distinct challenges that service sector firms face in communicating a safe workplace message to both new and temporary staff on an ongoing basis. In fact, it's OSSA's job to make sure businesses receive all the help and training resources they need to succeed.
